In ancient Greek terms, Valpolicella translates to “valley of many cellars”. Valpolicella refers to the range of red wine grapes that hail from the region - Amarone, Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto and Valpolicella.
The Valpolicella wine pyramid can be categorised into 5 sections. - Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso, Amarone Della Valpolicella and Recioto della Valpolicella. The most common wines in the pyramid is the Classico and Superiore.
The Recioto della Valpolicella is a rare dessert wine that can often be cellared for up to 30 years.
The Valpolicella is a dry red wine and is best paired with pizza, chocolates and cakes.
