Sambuca is a classic Italian spirit with an anise flavour. Traditionally it is clear or white but also comes in black and red varieties. In Italy it is often enjoyed as an after-meal digestif, after a cup of coffee. It can also be served with coffee beans in the glass. Chewing the beans while drinking balances out the sweet taste of the Sambuca. Like Ouzo, it can also be served in water with some ice cubes and when the water is added can turn a distinct cloudy white colour.
